The Transit Custom now comes with Intelligent Speed Assist, designed to enhance your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. First, the Traffic Sign Recognition camera automatically detects the current speed limit (when activated), then the system adjusts your maximum speed setting to that limit.
Cruise control that can adapt automatically
With Adaptive Cruise Control technology, you choose the speed you want to drive at and the system will maintain it. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow your vehicle to maintain a pre-set distance. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate to your chosen speed.
Forward Alert is a technology that comes as part of Adaptive Cruise Control and is designed to warn you if you accidentally get too close to the vehicle in front.
Sees the road signs you might miss
Whether the signs are at the side of the road or above it, permanent or temporary, Traffic Sign Recognition can identify them. An icon of that speed or a no-overtaking sign appears on the instrument cluster and changes every time you enter a new limit.
An advanced system to help you stay in lane
If it detects that you’re accidentally drifting out of lane, Lane-Keeping Alert can alert you by vibrating the steering wheel and displaying a visual warning.
Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.
Sensors that take the stress out of parking
Front and rear parking distance sensors help you judge the distance between your vehicle and obstacles in front or behind you. When the sensors detect an object, they activate a visual and audible warning that intensifies the closer you get to it.
Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance
An important part of Ford SYNC is Emergency Assistance*. In the event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump deactivated, the technology can use a Bluetooth®-paired and connected mobile phone to help you make a direct call to the Emergency Services.
You can choose to stop the call, or talk to those services if you need to. Crucially, the system can supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, even if you are unable to.
Technology that sees what you can’t
The Blind Spot Information System uses RADAR sensors to see vehicles that may be hidden in your blind spot. They’re situated on either side of your Transit Custom and alert you with an orange light, clearly displayed in the side door mirror.
Spots the vehicles you might miss
Cross Traffic Alert is part of the new Blind Spot Information System. When you’re reversing out of a space and have limited visibility of the traffic situation, Cross Traffic Alert can detect oncoming vehicles and sound a warning. The technology illuminates a light in the wing mirror too (left or right depending on the direction of oncoming traffic), as well as displaying a warning on the multi-functional display.
New LED daytime running lights for style and visibility
Highly energy efficient, these advanced daytime running lights provide a signature look that really sets the Transit Custom apart: they’ll help get you noticed during the day and seen clearly at night.
Headlights that react automatically
Automatic headlights use a sensor that detects failing light at dusk, or when there’s a sudden change in light conditions. This triggers the automatic headlights to turn themselves on, aiding the driver in darker conditions. In addition, Auto High Beam temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. It then automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility.
Rear air suspension
The rear air suspension system automatically adjusts to maintain a constant ride height, regardless of the loading conditions. This means you'll enjoy a smoother ride whether alone, with passengers or in a fully laden vehicle. (Available on Kombi only.)
Side Wind Stabilisation
Helps the driver to stay in lane in strong, gusty conditions by using the Electronic Stability Control system to sense when the vehicle is being affected by crosswinds.
Extra control during hill starts
Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.
Driver Alert System tells you when you're getting tired
Driver Alert System constantly monitors your driving behaviour and is designed to detect any changes that could be caused by fatigue. If the system identifies you’re becoming less vigilant, a warning icon appears in the display, suggesting you take a break. If your driving alertness further declines, the message is repeated and combined with a chime.
